Dieting tips for a young girl?

Filed in Category Dieting Tips for Girls

I’m 13, and i want to go on a diet.
I’m about 130 pounds, and about 5’2.
-In the morning, I have about 15 minutes for breakfast. What are some things i could make for breakfast in that time?
-I eat lunch at school, but i can bring stuff from home. What are some things I could eat at school or bring from home?
-For dinner, I usually eat at home, but every now and then my family eats out. My family loves to eat. What are some healthy dinners I can make either for myself or my entire family?

I ice skate a lot, and most the time i spend at home is spent on homework.. But I run a couple of times a week. What are some exercises i can do that will help me lose weight?

I want to look good this summer…I’ve never been able to wear a bikini, and I’ve always been self conscious about my body.

Please help…what exercises can i do, what food should i eat, and any other tips?

Thank you in advance.

  1. Eat food pyramid plans.

    I confirm.

  2. Sweetie, this is not the time in your life to diet. Your body is doing the most important building it has ever done, getting you into an adult body. To do that it needs the building material. You are still growing height as well, and can very easily grow into the weight you currently are. If you were trying to build a house, would you skimp on the foundation and support beams? No, not if you expected to end up with a decent house. Well, you are currently building your “house”, the one that you are going to live in for the rest of your life. Don’t skimp on the foundation and support beams. You should eat a good balanced breakfast, every single day. That is fuel not just for you body, but your brain as well. You can’t learn well if your stomach is empty. Learning takes fuel. Lunch choices depend on what you get at school and what sort of choices are on offer. You could opt to bring a sandwich on whole grain bread, with a piece of fruit, some veggie sticks and get milk at school. You can also bring soup and a wrap. Since you go to school, there should be either a school nurse or a home economics teacher. Speak with either one about what constitutes a good healthy diet for a girl your age. Online, you can visit the FDA site, which will also provide you a lot of information about it. If you want to wear a bikini, go for it. As far as being self conscious about your appearance, that’s a problem for all 13 year olds. We’ve all been there, feeling like either flabby whales or no chest sticks of wood. It’s a miserable part of the process, and a reason why nobody wants to revisit puberty. It will pass. Your body will develop all the curves in all the right places, and it will all work out okay. In the meantime, you are still a building under construction. Building sites are always somewhat messy, and it’s hard to see some days how it will work out. But by opening day, it all does. A healthy young lady in her teens is beautiful, whether she realizes it or not. Healthy looks always beat out stick thin. The boys are looking for a girl that looks healthy, not one that looks like she is going to break if the wind picks up. They also don’t want a girlfriend who lives on two lettuce leaves and a carrot stick, while fussing about how fat she is. For right now, your diet needs only to be healthy and well balanced, in decent amounts. Lots of fruits, veggies and whole grains, a bit of lean meat, plenty of dairy products to build healthy bones, and not so much fat, red meat and sweets. Very little junk food and soda. Give it a few years yet before you even think about diets that restrict your calories and nutrition. Build a nice, healthy body first.

  3. Because you’re still growing, you shouldn’t eat too little. You need plenty of vitamins to grow…so make sure not to starve yourself & to take vitamins…

    for breakfast-

the Kashi instant oatmeal packets only take 2 minutes to make and they’re very healthy. :)

Cereal is quick, just make sure it doesn’t have artificial colors/flavors (ALOT of the kids cereals do especially).

Learn how to scramble eggs, if you don’t already. I can do them pretty fast and they’re full of protein and other nutrients.

for Lunch, eat nuts. Nuts are a good source of many vitamins (so are sunflower seeds). Eat a sandwich every once in a while, because the bread has alot of calcium in it. I usually have Brummel & Brown spread with mine (it’s sort of like a fruity yogurty spread) instead of jelly, since jelly is made out of artificial preservatives and tons of sugar.
Dried fruits are good in moderation, and fresh fruits are always good. They give you energy and that’s good to have at school :P
    And you can take vegetables…
Kashi bars are good too. They’re made out of whole grains and are completely natural.

For dinner, salads are good, pasta has good carbs and most have whole grains. It tastes really good with olive oil.

    Another thing-
make sure to drink plenty of water!
Water helps quicken your metabolism, purify your body of toxins (if you have any acne, it’ll help your skin), helps keep your heart healthy, etc… There are so many advantages.

For exercises, I read my bike often.
Sometimes I lay on my back and slowly lift my legs up and down, it’s great for the abs..
If you ever can, go to the gym and try out the different machines to see which you like best. I really like the hill climbers and then going to the sauna.
Hope it works out for you :)
