What I know is that before the Qing dynasty, probably even only during the early dynasties (Han and 3K6D period) at least officials wore their hair tied to knots, which were usually hidden under a certain kind of hat. These hats were fixed to the knot with pins. Is there a proper name for these hats, and any resource available?
Thanks in advance!

The typical male hat or cap is called a jin for commoners and guan for the privileged. Officials and academics have a separate set of hats for them, typically the putou, the wushamao, the si-fang pingding jin and the Zhuangzi jin.
Gong mao is the headwear of an official during the Manchu Qing Dynasty in China consisted of (in winter) a black velvet cap, or (in summer) a hat woven in rattan or similar materials, both with a finial on top. Red tassels extended down from the finial, and a large peacock feather (with one to three “eyes”) or pheasant feather (for lower ranks) could be attached to the back of the cap.
