I’m planning on clipping out picture from magazazines, designing a collage on the flip flop, then coverering the whole thing on top of the pictures and on the bottom of the pictures with Elmer’s Rubbe Cement. Will it hold to a normal flip flop (the cheap ones from Dollar General.)??????????

It will dry with a yellowish tint…. might not be the result you are looking for. As far as using it for attaching the pictures, it would likely work, but Spray Mount would be cleaner and less lumpy. If you feel the need to topcoat everything, why not try Crystal Clear spray or just leave it as is? Beware newsprint, even if in color, does not respond well to most adhesives…. the image will bleed through. Good luck.
P.S. I’m assuming this is just a ‘mock up?’ That is, not something you are looking to wear and use this time around, right? If not, the other posters ideas about using permanent enamels and such are good, but might dissolve the flip-flop material. Another idea would be to hot laminate, using heavy clear laminate material, the collage, then trim to size, burnish the edges a little and affix to the flip flop with 3M Spray Mount heavy duty or even upholsterer’s spray adhesive. Good luck to you…
the first poster has some good tips i think. i’d suggest just trying it with some clipouts you won’t be using. glue it on and see if it sticks or gets discolored. if it sticks, great! just glue the actual stuff on top of your test piece and continue. if it doesn’t stick, then just take it off and try something else. i’ve always felt rubber cement doesn’t do the best job. there are tons of heavy duty adhesives you can get from home depot or other hardware stores. i’m sure it won’t cost much.
why are you putting glue on top of the paper? to protect from the elements? i have no idea about the water resistance of rubber cement, but maybe you’ll want to try a clear painting enamel from home depot. spray some scotchguard on top if it’s not waterproof, or look for a waterproof enamel.
