  1. Yes, milk thistle is good for both and has been scientifically proven. Just do a google search.
Please don’t listen to the 2 clowns above me: one works for the FDA who has vested interest in people staying toxic–thereby ill and bringing him income; the other is a bitter woman whose husband would probably still be alive if he hadn’t gone the MD route but used milk thistle instead. Of course the bitter woman has vested interested in staying in denial. If she faced the truth she’d quite possibly comit harakiri of the shame!
You need however to make sure that it is standardized for the silymarin, which is the active, beneficial component. Just use the milk thistle and see for yourself, you’ll be amazed.

  2. I agree with Gary. the best way to protect your liver is don’t eat any weird stuff. Your liver metabolizes EVERYTHING you ingest so next time you are deciding to get $hitfaced or take an extra Tylenol because of a really bad headache or eat a boatload of greasy food, you just added toxins to your liver.
Now, on the other hand. Milk thistle does seem to have some effect on liver enzymes but last I heard, there wasn’t any definitive answer as to if it really improved liver enzyme counts or if it skewed the testing for liver enzyme counts.

  3. You can’t cleanse your liver. Your liver already deals with foreign substances by modifying their chemical structure so they can be excreted by the kidneys, which filter them from the blood into the urine. So it makes no sense that you can detox your liver. Accumulation of toxins in this sense has no basis in science.
Detox is total baloney. Don’t waste your time and money. Alt med is rife with nonsense, when you see “detox”, be skeptical.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detoxificat…http://www.senseaboutscience.org.uk/inde…
    Edit:
Chris, I don’t work for the FDA, I don’t even live in the US. But even if I did, that doesn’t make me wrong. You will need to do much better than that. Resorting to personal attacks usually means you can’t support what you are saying.

  4. Doing a liver detox can make you angry, insulting, paranoid and slanderous.
