Is There Any Way To Fix A Scratch On Pearl Jewelry?

Filed in Category Pearls

I single pearl set on a silver ring band. I dropped the ring on concrete.. and now there are scratches on the top surface of the pearl. Is there any way to fix this? Buffing, anything like that?

  1. alcohol will only remove grease, not a scratch from a pearl. All buffing etc. will remove more nacre from the pearl. You would need something to fill in the scratch. If it’s a rather valuable ring, I would go to a jeweller and ask them if something can be done. If it was a cheap ring, I would probably try to put some pearly nailpolish on with a very fine brush.
    Cheers

  2. I am afraid not, pearls are an organic gem and as such are soft, so the scratches have damaged the actual surface of the pearl. If you had the pearl ring for a long time it would eventually get scratched as well.
However you are probably the only one that will notice the scratches. Keep wearing it and providing you don’t point the scratches out it is unlikely anyone will notice.

  3. try rubbing alcohol
