Both mathematicans and electrical/mechanical engineers love math and both jobs use math to solve real life problems. Both occupation involve problem solvers. How are the two jobs different?

   Usually the basic math has been done for the engineering jobs (formulas for structural integrity, electrical current in a circuit, transmission of radio signals, etc.), but it needs to be applied to solve a particular problem. The mathematician creates the basic math the engineers use.
