  1. The very original rational behind what we now know as “punk” fashion was not only based on the scenes predeliction to being individuals and rebelling against mainstream ideas but also to simply anger people. The Sex Pistols used to wear swastika armbands. Not because they were racist at all but simply because it o ffended people. The whole idea behind the “punk” mentality has a lot to do with pointing out peoples ignorance and intolerance. “Punks” love to piss people off just to see them pissed of over something totally stupid. Nowadays I can’t really speak about. When I was a kid and wearing all the punk rock gear I dont know what I was thinking. It was cool at the time because I had no friends and was a complete outcast. Being punk rock gave me something I could belong too. And when your a kid its all about acceptance whether it be from the popular kids and jocks or the punk rock kids. We all just want to fit in somewhere.

  2. It is anti-fashion…the original punks were going against what was “acceptable” and what was attractive. They are trying to go against what everyone else thinks so they are using their appearance to show it visually. It is also a sort of native-american revival being with the mohawks and chains. They are supposed to be threatening so there is no wonder that there were movies in the 80′s portraying Punks as being bloodthirsty vampires or participating in satanic cults. The fashion and the music go hand in hand, it is anti-establishment. The fashion point of it all is that they do not buy their clothes from a specific store (pre-HotTopic) and they prefer to make their own. (example: Buying or finding a used jean jacket, cutting off the sleeves and attaching patches with punk bands such as the Clash or even the Ramones.) It is a very do-it-yourself fashion unlike any else. One that you cannot buy in a store. Although you can nowadays, it is not considered true punk.

  3. When some dresses like a punk, goth, skater, or anything else, they are basically saying that they are not original, while thinking that they are so cutting edge and hip.
From a former punk himself, I look back at pictures and wonder why in the world I thought I was expressing my own individuality when I was just dressing and acting like everyone else I knew.
Having said that, there’s no harm in it, and we all do things in the past that might seem silly when we reach a certain age.

  4. I’m guessing there trying to tell the world they are anti-government (anarchy) and that they totally have there own fad that stands out and they don’t have a care in the world.
Just like the band The Sex Pistols look em up :)

  5. Well, they’re expressing their indivdiuality and their disregard for what’s “popular”. But sometimes, it’s just because they like the clothes and they are confident enough to wear them :) .

  6. I guess that they’re bad ***?
I don’t particularly have one style. But sometimes I like to dress somewhat punky. I like the edgy look it gives off.
