What Is The Difference Between A Flip-flop Or A Personal Evolution?

Filed in Category Shoes

When Obama does it republicans consider it a flip-flop when McCain does it they call it an evolution of ideas and McCain has had many “evolutions”. I call it hypocrisy.

  1. Obama is the most flip flopping candidate in history! He was on the top ten most corrupt politicians list and I know that although kiddos here on YA sing his praises in the REAL world its a different story!

  2. I do agree there tends to be a level of hypocrisy in the use of the term “flip-flop”. I think a flip-flop is something done for political expediency or an inability to make up one’s own mind within a single speech/conversation, etc. Personal evolution would be someone changing their view of an issue based on an experience or additional knowledge. I do think that the term “flip-flop” has been overused and often used inappropriately. One of the classic flip-flops was Sen.McCain’s view on gay marriage, taking place within minutes.

  3. according to the McCain supporter i saw on MSNBC, its ok for McCain to change his positions and flip flop because he has been a senator for a long time and Obama hasnt.
but back in 04 the Republicans called John Kerry a flip flopper. it looks like to me that McCain can keep changing positions and the Republican sheep will continue to follow

  4. Republicans are very good at controlling the language to frame discussions. For example, they “evolve” while Democrats “flip flop”. During Vietnam, the war “escalated” under Democrats but under Republicans we instead have a “surge”. Medicare is an “obligation to the elderly”, while any Democratic proposals to extend that “obligation” to everyone becomes “socialism”. It’s become an ingenious way to get people to vote against their own self-interest.

  5. I call the term given to changing one’s mind ‘flip flop’ to be offensive…

  6. when obama flip-flops, he just evolving. at least that’s what his sheep say.
