Why is it that a majority of the British are seen to have poor fashion sense in the rest of Europe.
Our continental neighbours such as Spain, France and Italy are the pioneers of style, so what are we doing wrong?

   Actually I think British teen girls have a great sense of style. I think this problem is purely the way you are choosing to see things right now.

   In Britain we tend to buy far more clothes than in the rest of Europe so it’s a case of quantity not quality. In Europe people tend to own just a few very good quality items if clothing and accessorise them to add style.

   i’m not from England, and I’ve never been to England, but fashion sense may be lacking in your neck of the woods, but I tell you, your music scene isn’t!! British music is the best in the world, and at many times throughout history, fashion mimicks the music scene. Therefore, it is easy to consider that you Brits have a fashion that is easy going, relaxed, and quite unique because your music is also. I wouldn’t say your fashion sense sucked, I would say it ROCKS !!!

   What a load of bollocks!
   I am a Scot/Brit living in the US and out fashion and edgy sense of style is the envy of many countries.
   Outside Paris, the French havent got a clue.
   Italian women dress like transvestites most of the time – although the men usually manage to look reasonably good.
   The Spanish are so so, again if you move outside Barcelona, Mardrid etc you will see some sights for sore eyes… trust mI have lived in or visited all of the above.
   Fashion follows popular culture in many ways… Brit pop is unrivalled by any other country in the world. We have a music scene that is the envy of the world…
   I can only assume some old fart who doesnt have a clue posted this question?

   Their rolemodels have appaling taste in clothing eg Pop Stars, Youth TV, American Soap Operas etc

   Probably because nice clothes are so expensive here in england – and in italy, spain, and france they can get designer clothes for much much less …. also not all english people are unfashionable … us teenage girls aren’t .. no offence but mainly the older people are unfashionable !

    I think one of the major factors is that in France, Spain, and Italy, most schools dont have school uniforms, so from a young age, children pick out their own clothes and are forced to think about what to wear every day. In this way they establish a sense of style and individuality early on and it stays with them for the rest of their lives. Even old French and Italian people are chic! If British schools could get rid of school uniforms it would be a good start.

    us scottish folk look great in oor kilts and donkey jackets and auld trainers the men wear nice duffle coats and white socks and brogues we could teach the catwalk a thing or two

    When you look around the UK there is not much fashion sense because-
    In Italy and France is where most fashion shows are held as it is cheaper to do so in those counties. So as a result of this they are first to get to know what is fashionable and whats not. In France and Italy girls are taught on how to dress and present them self’s. Where as in the UK we are taught that sex is wrong and that we can sue our parents if we don’t agree with them.
    The British have no pride in themselves as people we are always looking to see how we can look better but not in an easy way like getting a new style of Clothes or Clean up our appearance. We also keep ourselves busy where as they don’t need to full fill their lives like that.
    If us Brits stopped and had a good look in the mirror out our lives we would see we don’t need to be rushed of our feet, work all hours and be so exhausted that we have no pride in ourselves.

    I personally blame the weather. You can’t just throw clothes and be fashionable, you need to have the look and i know that so many have gone out looking a swanky as any catwalk model and been drenched the second we leave the house.
    You forget when macks and wellies were in… we were so trendy its untrue!
