because you can grip more things with your hands is you have two open hands then one.and its hanrder to get stolen in a busy street like you are carrythin by the handle and someone comes up and snatches it.easy.if it around the arm,its closer to you.

if thats what you are talking about its because its more comfortable. and you can carry your handbag in the middle of your arm and hold your phone in your hand.
Not sure why, I find it easier to throw a bag over my shoulder! Anyway they look like the Queen or Margaret Thacher. Perhaps they eventually want to rule the country!!!

Idk, i kind of depends on the type of bag. like i have this one juicy couture bag that i usually have to do that with. and something about holding it like that is very girlie…. : )

Maybe it just looks chic to carry it that way especially when being photographed by the paparazzi.
i carry my bag like that cos i just find it more comfortable. i dont like having my arms hanging down and i have bony shoulders so putting it over my shoulder hurts so i hang it over my arm.
to keep our hands free
it relieves stress off of the shoulder, and puts it somewhere else manageable for a reasonable amount of time. i do it all the time so i don’t hurt my shoulder.
I carry my bag like that, its just easier, you have 2 free hands to shop with.

because we want to women have been carrying bags this way for ever its not a new thing and hand bags are not shopping bags swinging from your arms
its just natural for me to hold it that way , im sure its the same for some women.

It’s comfy and frees your hands
Because they need both of their hands free to talk with. One hand to talk with and one hand to gesture with.
You need your hands free, and its too easy to lay it down walk off and forget it. so we have to get use to clutching it that way as soon as it’s gone you’ll know it.
keeps us from straining our necks do you realise what we keep in our bags and they do weigh a ton?
