I got a tattoo on my lower stomach about a year ago and when i was looking at my stomach a few minutes ago i realized that its swollen as if i just got it done. What could be causing this?

   don’t worry it’s just the ink rising. it takes a lot longer then many people think for the ink to really sink in the skin properly, about 7 or 8 years. if it does happen, nothing is wrong.

   Is there red ink in it? You could have a sensitivity to the pigment, it is pretty common. I have a bit of red that bugs me now and then. Every few months it just swells a bit and gets itchy for a few minutes and then goes away. I’m guessing something else is irritating it once in a while, but it happens so infrequently I haven’t been able to figure out what. If it keeps bugging you call your doctor and/or artist.
   Also, is it near any metal, like a belt buckle or belly necklace or even the buttons on your jeans? You could be reacting to nickel or copper or the like, and it could just be coincidental that it is on your tattoo. Also any lotion or body product with fragrance or color could do it.

   Tattoos make scars, you just can’t see them because of the color of the ink. Maybe your scar is just acting up? I had a tattoo that did this off and on for a few years. The doctor wasn’t concerned, and neither was the tattoo artist. However, it may not be what I think it is. If you have any doubts whatsoever, you should definitely go to the doctor or at least a tattoo parlor, they’ll know what’s really going on.

   Well, I’m not a doctor or anything, but I’m thinking that maybe it could be a belated allergic reaction? Or maybe melanoma. Or it could just be something simple. I really have no idea, but I’d advise you to check with your doctor just in case it’s something serious.
